This week Christopher Nolan is filming scenes for his upcoming film Dunkirk, the true story of 300,000 Allied troops that were rescued from beaches in Dunkirk, France, after they were surrounded by an advancing Nazi army in 1940. Dunkirk is scheduled to be released July 21, 2017.
We decided to take our morning walk at Point Vicente and join the paparazzi in an attempt to get photographs of some of the action. The paparazzi we spoke with were looking for shots of Harry Styles and Tom Hardy, who are on the cast list.
According to the filming permit filed with the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, filming will involve more than 100 cast members and crew with more than 80 vehicles. Squibs (small explosives used to simulate gunfire) and a propane flame bar are both listed among the pyrotechnics to be used during filming.
We believe the flame bar can be seen hanging from the crane in the photos below. The shooting schedule also includes simulated fighter cockpit flight scenes.

Wow! I drove past it yesterday and could see some activity, but not all this. I guess a lot of people and equipment are involved in every shot. It’ll be so much fun to watch the finished film.
