Well, we have been on the road for over 2 weeks without mentioning the presidential election. Canadians, as one can imagine, are seriously concerned with the potential ramifications of the election. Here are a few of election related soundbites we heard from Canadians:
- Town hall attendance in small towns has been very large. Residents hope to learn the impact of our election on them.
- US presidential election cycle is ridiculously long compared to that of Canada. (How could we be so inefficient?)
- Canadian’s three political parties are far more Centrist than the polarized parties in the US, thus making the US government dysfunctional.
- Worry that if Trump were elected, a nuclear war might happen.
- If Trump won, US society would enter a regressive period.
- Bottom line: Neither candidate would be particularly good for Canada. The effect of a Trump presidency would be worse, and the negative effects would be felt more quickly.
Now back to more escapism. We left Cape Breton Island and traveled down Nova Scotia’s South Shore, also called the Bluenose Coast. The road follows many atmospheric harbors and coves. The Bluenose Coast begins at the quaint fishing village of Peggy’s Cove; its lighthouse is on top of dramatic granite rocks and is one of the most photographed spots in Canada. Unfortunately, the army of buses carrying tourists takes away from its charm. We still enjoyed our walk there and the touristy bagpipe music.
From there, we walked around Old Town Luneburg. Once a British colonial settlement, established in 1753, it has become a UNESCO World Heritage Center because it has been so well preserved and all the renovations have been faithful to the original plan and look. It is certainly a COLORFUL town.
At the end of the day, we crossed Nova Scotia to get to our hotel on the eastern shore in Digby. Digby, renown for its scallops, is near the ferry that would take us back to New Brunswick the next day. It was a long day of driving and walking. We certainly enjoyed the scallops, music and bed at the Digby Pines Golf Resort. We slept well.

Hi guys! Thank you for all the updates they are great fun to see and read. Hope you are thoroughly enjoying the adventure of it all.
Craig loved the lighthouse photo; I was wondering in the photo of you and the Scot with the kilt, just which clan he belongs to? The plaid reminds me a
bit of the HUNTER clan.
I can tell you’re having a special vacation. Enjoy the rest of your trip. It’s beautiful country.
Hugs,
McLeod clan
You are definitely having a great run of beautiful weather. Jill is looking quite svelte! Pan seared bay scallops work for me. May your entire trip be as relaxing as the first several weeks. Thank you again for taking the considerable time to curate photos and write the narrative – they are both excellent.
Wish we were there !! Hope you did not get 10 replies from Ed on your previous post, 🙁
I’ve haven’t been saying much, I know. I’ve just been enjoying your pictures and their captions. Looks like you’re having a lot of fun, and the places you’ve been visiting are beautiful.
As for the election, we, Canada, and the rest of the world are screwed whomever of our two candidates wins! As for me, I won’t be voting for ANY presidential candidate, just “downticket.”
You guys hit the jackpot again, weather, location. Are you north enough to possibley see Aurora Borealis? Probably a silly question. Enjoy from UK
You’re right about the town being colorful! Every place is beautiful and so picturesque. You’re lucky to be there at such a gorgeous time – well, just lucky.
