2018 Music Triangle Road Trip, Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Nashville, TN

Our visit to Nashville began the afternoon of Saint Patrick’s Day.  Our hotel room on Church Street wasn’t ready, so we set out to explore the downtown area. The streets were full of tourists, college students on spring break, and bachelorettes celebrating. Party Bikes / Pedal Bars are extremely popular. Nashville is clearly a young folks’ town.

The Grand Ole Opry was a must do on our Nashville list.  We were able to get reservations at Rumours East, a wonderful restaurant in a refurbished Victorian house on east side of Nashville on the way to the Opryland.

Sunday evening we decided to walk downtown and try one of the many BB King franchised “blues club” restaurants. As we had reservations, we were seated up front with a great view of the stage.  During dinner we were treated to two of local performers: Adam McDonough and Mike Hayes & The Hustle.

After a restful day and an early dinner, we decided to find a different music style to enjoy. Nashville is presently experiencing rapid growth  (100 new people each day) with signs of construction visible everywhere. The historic neighborhood known as “The Gulch” (between Nashville’s Music Row and Downtown) is one such dynamic area experiencing urban redevelopment for better or worse.

Every Sunday night, The Station Inn, one of Nashville’s finest venues for live bluegrass, hosts jam session.  We decided to sample some local bluegrass music and were not disappointed.

This venue was one of the sole businesses that operated in The Gulch during its run-down warehouse days.  We hope that it survives the redevelopment taking place in this neighborhood.
