Called the “Pearl of the Danube” and the “Paris of Eastern Europe,” Budapest is lit up like a XMAS tree each evening. As our boat motored into the city on the Danube, a herd of people, being struck by the city’s unique beauty and sense of romance, ran to the top deck.
No wonder the Soviets loved to indulge themselves in this city and sort of left its bon vivant culture & the bourgeoisie alone. Budapest was place where Soviet officials’ acquired contraband items and partook in illegal activities. We can see why they partied here.
