2018 Music Triangle Road Trip, Louisiana, New Orleans, USA

New Orleans, LA

This is our third visit to New Orleans and the first time we had a car at our disposal.  Before returning the car to the airport and taking Uber to our accommodation on Saint Charles Avenue just outside the French Quarter, we visited Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.

This park is a collection of six geographically distributed sites mostly on the other side of the Mississippi from the City of New Orleans.  After our drive we decided to stroll the boardwalk trail through the swamp and marsh of the Barataria Preserve.

Our hotel, The Blake, was located just outside the French Quarter on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line at Lafayette Square in Downtown New Orleans.

Our first evening we enjoyed a HAPPY happy-hour of gulf oysters and martinis just down the street at Luke’s. After dinner we walked through the French Quarter and listened to all the different genres of music being performed at various bars and clubs.

During the day we toured the City by hop-on-hop-off bus to see what had changed since our last visit.  During our last evening we dined at Cafe Amelie on Royal Street and walked over to Frenchmen Street to avoid the crowds of tourists.

New Orleans wrapped up our 2018 music road trip.  The next day we departed for Austin, Texas, to spend Easter with our son, Brian; his wife, Amy; and our grandson, Vincent.
