We climbed aboard the “bullet bus” early in the morning and headed to Fjordland National Park and Milford Sound. Pete thought the shape was more like a wedge.
According to our Maori bus driver, Paul, this bullet bus has won an award for its aerodynamic design. The roof is glass and the side windows are almost continuous.
The seats are tilted toward the windows.
We stopped at the entry of the park for some refreshments.
We took numerous walks through the park in the rain.
This is the famous “Pregnant Talking Tree” from Peter Jackson’s LOTR.
We’re singing in the rain . . . .
Walking up to view the chasm.
Awesome-the power of water!
We boarded a boat at Milford Sound.
We were told we were so lucky to view the fjord during a heavy rainstorm because the waterfalls were epic.
Wowie, zowie!
The steepness of these mountains and the force of the water are indescribable.
Now I know what to buy Pete for Xmas. This tourist came from Lyon, France. We all got drenched shooting these pictures.
The boat went right through the spray. Many drenched people screamed and ran for shelter. We all laughed.
Holy neck strain. It’s hard to see the top of the mountain; you have to do a backward bend.
AMAZING!
Marsha, we did it for you: After a long day of traveling by bus, we went to Fergburger, the world famous burger joint in Queenstown.
It was packed.
We lucked out and found a seat. We did not have to wait in a 3 hour line. This time the rain worked to our advantage.
This is the biggest burger we have ever seen. There goes our diet.
To the Sheridans: Was this the jump you took? It was advertised in the lobby of our hotel. You guys rock!

Amazing photos of Milford Sound. It had the most scenic sights that we saw during our trip to NZ. In answer to your question, no the Canyon Swing was not where we bungee jumped. We did ours at the Ledge Bungee/Swing near the top of the gondola on the mountain just above Queenstown. I heard about this one but we didn’t have the time to make it there.
Thank you for sharing this amazing vacation with all of us.
Your first and last picture of the fjord’s are surreal. Did the evil Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters have an accident at the top of the mountain?
Have a very safe journey home.
Cheers.
Now you know why Fiordland was our favorite part of NZ. Green with envy!! 🙂
Thank you for sharing all those wonderful pictures, can’t wait to see the video of your trip, glad to see you made it home safe and sound.
Your view of the Fjord in the rain was amazing! So many waterfalls! We did see waterfalls but nothing like that. Love it!
Yes! that was the bungee we did – the canyon swing!
Oops – Steve’s right. I think it was Shotover but not over the river!
